Here is Why Won’t TikTok Let Me Link My Instagram (3 Easy Ways To Fix It)

In this post, I’m going to give you a few pointers on why won’t TikTok let me link my Instagram account and what you can do to fix it.

If you are an avid TikTok user, you know that TikTok gives you the option to link your other social media accounts to your TikTok account to diversify your social media presence and share your content with other social media platforms. One of those platforms is Instagram.

By linking your Instagram account to your TikTok account, you are able to run your TikTok app and share your videos directly to your Instagram account without having to save and upload your content separately or having to switch between the two accounts.

First, let’s look at how to link your Instagram account to your TikTok account. It’s a pretty simple process actually.

  1. Open your TikTok app and click the Profile icon on the bottom right corner of your screen.
  2. Click Edit Profile, then go to the Social section, and on Instagram tap Add Instagram.
  3. In the next window, the Instagram login screen will load and prompt you to enter your Instagram username and password to log in.
  4. Select Allow when prompted and when you do, this will give Instagram access to your TikTok account.

After you log in, you will be directed to your TikTok profile, there should now be an Instagram icon showing next to the Edit Profile button on your profile page.

Tip: If you want to unlink the two accounts, all you need to do is follow the same steps above.

With your TikTok and Instagram accounts are now linked, you should be able to use the apps together to grow your social media following and post your content with less hustle. You will also be able to create unique videos in minutes and share them directly to your Instagram account with just a tap of a button.

Now that you are well conversant with how to link your Instagram account to your TikTok account, let’s look at an instance where this link fails to happen, maybe the Instagram button is not showing or it is just not working. Here are a few tricks you can try to solve the issue.

Much as it’s not a guarantee that the provided fixes will work for everyone, my hope is that one of them will surely fix your problem.

First, consider this:

Having Multiple Instagram Accounts using Same Logins

Your problem may be springing from the fact that you have multiple Instagram accounts using the same login, which causes confusion with your Instagram account when trying to link it to your TikTok account because you may be linking the wrong Instagram account to your TikTok profile.

If this is the case for you, try changing the second Instagram account’s password or changing the email to a new one, then log in to your TikTok using the second account’s credentials.

Remember always to make sure you only connect one Instagram account to your TikTok account because connecting multiple accounts will interfere with your TikTok account and you will fail to link both accounts.

If multiple Instagram accounts didn’t cause your issue, try the following solutions:

How to Fix Why Won’t TikTok Let Me Link My Instagram

1. Reinstall your TikTok app

Try deleting your TikTok app and reinstalling it. This is one of the few working fixes that work for many users.

Before you delete your app, make sure you don’t have any drafts you might need later because deleting the app will likely delete any drafts you have in your data.

You may also want to consider deleting and reinstalling your Instagram as well.

Make sure you restart your device after the reinstallation.

2. Update the TikTok and Instagram apps

Sometimes, these errors and malfunctions on apps are caused by outdated versions of apps.  Make sure your TikTok and Instagram apps are up to date to clear any bugs and errors.

To do this:

  • On your device, go to Google Play Store or the App Store (or go through your app settings to check for an update.)
  • Search for Instagram or TikTok
  • Click on the app icon then click on the Update button.

This will download and install the latest TikTok or Instagram on your device. However, if you are already running the latest version of either or both apps you will not see the option to upgrade to the latest version.

3. Clear your app’s cache

Your failure to link your Instagram account to your TikTok account may be attributed to an accumulation in your cache or a bug. To solve this problem, try clearing your TikTok app’s cache to refresh the app and remove any error and process failures that may have occurred.

You can clear your TikTok cache directly from your profile by going to your TikTok Settings, under Cache & Cellular, going to  Free up space, and then clearing your cache.

Or, you can clear your cache via your device’s settings.

To do this:

Go to Settings > Apps or Apps and Notifications, look for TikTok, click on it, then go to Storage and Clear cache.

You may as well clear your Instagram app’s cache for good measure.

Let’s Wrap Up on Why Won’t TikTok Let Me Link My Instagram

Hopefully, one of the solutions provided above has been able to solve your TikTok Instagram link problem. However, if they have not, you can always report the problem to TikTok support and they may be able to help you.

To report a problem:

To report a problem again, go to the Settings and Privacy section on the hamburger icon (☰) on your app.

Scroll down to the Support & About section, and you will see “Report a problem

In the Search, you can type in “Instagram” and select “unable to link Instagram accounts to profile”

Select No in the next window then select “Need more help”

Type in details of your issue in the text box, then click the Submit button when you are done.

TikTok support will get back to you with a fix for your problem (hopefully).

Alternatively, you could link your Instagram or any other social media account to your TikTok by simply adding a link in your TikTok bio so that your followers can quickly visit your other social media pages or even your website.

Note that you can add the link, but it won’t be a hyperlink, so anyone who wants to follow it has to copy and paste it.
