In this article, I’m going to share with you some of the differences between Telegram X vs Telegram and help to identify their features and properties and mostly get to know the parent/original application.
Telegram and Telegram X are both instant messaging platforms that are open-source messaging applications from the same company. The two applications might look the same initially but when you check closely you’ll find some major differences in their interface and functionality.
I’m going to share with you the differences between these two applications;
Telegram is a popular messaging app that was developed by Nikolai Durov and Pavel Durov and launched in 2013. It has gained over 700 million active monthly users and it is one of the world’s top 10 most downloaded messaging apps.
Telegram is an increasingly popular messaging app because it is free and focuses on security.
It also offers a number of special features like including self-destructing messages, the ability to modify already sent messages and lock discussions with a password, and secret discussions using end-to-end encryption, meaning no one but the sender and receiver of the messages can read them.
Apparently, an alternative client called Challegram came up after winning the Telegram Android Challenge, and the developers of Telegram acquired it and then changed the name to Telegram X, it was launched in 2016 and it is considerably faster and smoother than the original application.
Telegram X possesses all the basic messaging features of the regular Telegram app, but there are a few experimental features, too. It is built to be noticeably faster and smoother than the main Telegram app—the animations are awe-inspiring. It is currently available on both the iOS App store and the Android Play store.
Telegram X is intended for users who are looking for more features and a more fluid interface, with greater ease of use. We are going to explain all the features of this app, in addition to the differences from the original version.

Telegram X Vs Telegram – The Differences
#1. Separate tabs for chats and calls
In the Telegram X app there are two independent columns for both conversations and calls. To move from one to another, you simply need to press on the screen, which makes this change much more agile and quicker than in Telegram where you have to go to the menu to find the calls tab.
In addition, with Telegram X you can switch between calls and messages by simply swiping right or left.
You’ll also find additional options while viewing your chats like pinning, deleting, mute chatting, or making the chats unreadable.
#2. Saved messages
The Saved messages section, which works as a private chat to send messages and files to yourself, has a different layout in Telegram than in Telegram X. The location to find this chat is the same (☰ > Saved messages), but the items are arranged differently.
The multimedia sections, such as images, music or GIFs are now found at the top of the sliding menu. This helps you to easily and quickly find your media or documents within the different tabs.
#3. Telegram X Vs Telegram PIN control
Originally, Telegram chats could be encrypted only through a code, but now in Telegram X, the security has increased. In addition to a code, the methods for blocking and unblocking conversations are more; you can use a password, a gesture, a pattern, or even a fingerprint.

#4. Provision for more customization
In Telegram X settings, you’ll find an additional feature that does not exist in the main version, that’s Interface. In this section, you’ll be able to configure more design aspects and new functions within a chat.
For example, you can change the app’s colour, choose whether to autoplay GIFs, edit your chat preview, insert emojis or animated stickers, and so on.
#5. Additional Features in Telegram X That Telegram Does Not Have
Telegram X, unlike ordinary Telegram, has Picture in Picture (PiP) technology, which means a user can continue watching the videos through a floating bubble while browsing the app or replying to chats and the like.
Telegram X has a whole section dedicated to Stickers. When you go to Settings > Stickers, you’ll find a whole bunch of sticker collections to choose from.
A Telegram user can upload videos at normal speed, while on Telegram X you can upload videos at 3x faster speed.
In Telegram X, you can see a preview of a chat by long-pressing it. This is not possible with Telegram.
Telegram X has a Data Saver feature (Settings > Data and Storage). It saves data when you switch to mobile data and roaming.
The Telegram X app has significantly higher speed because the movements between menus and chats are smoother and faster than in the original Telegram application.
Telegram X has a special Night Mode tab which enables it to automatically switch due to the light sensor technology used.
Another unique feature of Telegram X is the Bubbles mode. This provides more space in the chat for better placement of text and media in messages, and it mimics the default display of messages in the form of a text balloon.
Furthermore, Telegram X comes packed with a variety of emoji sets from Google, Apple, Twitter, Samsung, etc, under Settings > Themes and Chats > Emoji Set

In conclusion
The differences between Telegram X Vs Telegram might not be very visible at a first glance and are not insignificant.
However, since different people have different requirements for their messaging apps, you would have to read and judge for yourself which app is better, based on your requirements, and then you can decide whether to switch to version X or stick to the classic version.
But hopefully, this article has made those comparisons clearer for you, hence easing your decision.
It’s important to note though that the Telegram X app is experimental and may or may not eventually replace the existing official app. But, even if it does not, it will definitely speed up the development of Telegram by allowing the Telegram company to quickly test new approaches and technologies.
